Twinning Agreement between Paphos and Amman

President Anastasiades is currently in Jordan in an effort to expand the business opportunities between the two countries. The countries enjoy 53 years of warm relations between them and according to the President, they have excellent ties in the business and economic front, and these cooperations can be enforced further.

The areas of interest and possible cooperation between the two countries are numerous and they spread to the transport sector, sciences, tourism and renewable energy sources, trade, commercial and investment sectors as well as tourism exchanges.

The President emphasized the potential of Joint Tourist Destination packages since the two countries are in such proximities and enjoy daily flights as it is. The aim of this is to benefit from distant destinations such as US, China and India that Royal Jordanian Airlines is currently serving.

The importance and ways of strengthening the two countries collaborations in these critical times of regional chaos and uncertainty, is the goal of the meeting of the President with the Jordanian Prime Minister. The President stressed that the top priority in Cyprus right now is to attract investments into the government. Additionally, the President stated that ‘with the two countries forming part of the wider Middle East, they both have great stake in the stability of their geographical areas and share the common objective of creating conditions conducive to lasting peace and stability and developments in the region and beyond’.

Steps such as the opening of the Jordanian Embassy in Nicosia, the ‘twinning’ agreement between Amman and Paphos , the Memorandum of Understanding to be signed soon between Paphos’ and Amman’s Chambers of Commerce, will strengthen our cooperation with Jordan even more. This may also benefit the local businesses of Paphos, inlcuding also the developments sector.

 

Furthermore, Double Taxation treaty between the two countries is also a goal of the Cypriot government that will positively affect the economic, commerce and investment opportunities for the mutual benefits of the business communities and the peoples of both countries.
